During the LANTBEX exercises in the north Atlantic, a storm took away
much of the sail. The photo to the left (from Bob Lancaster) may represent
the initial condition, with damaged portions of the sail still in place.
I don't know if this photo was taken in Belfast, where the Irex headed
for some quick repairs. There were no antennas left with which to
communicate until one was jury-rigged, and the boat had to return home
on the surface. The photo to the right is the condition in March of 1960
back in New London (from Bob Souden), when the damaged portions of the
sail had been removed.
