Milton Speer's son passed along a number of photographs, including these images of Milton at work and of the Irex in 1954. Located elsewhere are photos of a ship's party and another view of the Irex in about 1953.
This photo shows the boat's first sail designed to accommodate the new snorkel. There is still a chin gun mount below the bridge and a rear bridge deck (“cigarette deck”), but now without the 40mm cannon. The the after deck %" gun remains. When the next version of the sail was made, it was bigger and heavier, and both guns were removed, apparently to make the boat less top-heavy.
One can also see the sonar hydrophone on the forward deck that was controlled from the aft bulkhead of the forward torpedo room.
